Composed of PV panels, On-Grid inverters and smart metering equipment, these systems are maintenance-free systems installed in parallel with public grid or diesel generators. On-Grid systems could be a source of income when it’s possible to inject the excess produced power to the grid, and get paid in return. When used with diesel generators, the generator fuel consumption will be significantly decreased.
In addition to the solar PVs and the inverter, a battery is added to form an Off-Grid system. These systems are totally isolated from the grid, where during the day, PVs would supply power and charge the batteries, and during the night, the batteries will supply the load. Off-Grid systems are being widely used nowadays because of their reliability, economic feasibility and the energy independence they achieve.
By combining the features of both On-Grid and Off-Grid systems, a hybrid solar system would be created. Considering a bit higher initial cost, these systems are significantly efficient especially in areas that encounters frequent public grid failures.
Solar Pumping allow the water pumps to be powered directly from solar PVs through a special type inverter. Regardless of the availability of power, especially in remote areas, solar pumping ensures a 100% free operation for water pumps (and motors in general) during the day.
With the increasing global efforts for maintaining a clean and low-emissions environment, electric vehicles are being widely used. This would bring another application of solar PV panels, which will be connected to a special charger that would able to charge an EV within a short time, starting from 20 minutes.
